The research on illegal texting while driving is pretty clear – it is one of the most dangerous things a driver can do and studies have shown it can significantly increase the risk of having an accident.

The scientific evidence shows that the most dangerous non-driving tasks are activities that divert the driver’s eyes away from the road.

Texting drivers take their eyes off the road for 4.6 seconds over a six-second interval, which means at 60kph a driver is not watching the road for 75-metres. This also applies to reading emails, engaging in social media and browsing the web.
